I was coming home from a class tonight and I was hungry. I just wanted something quick and simple like a Wendy's baked potato. I don't frequent fast food joints because one, I'm a vegetarian and two, as a kid, going to McDonald's was more of a treat since Ma always prepared homemade meals. All I wanted was a Wendy's baked potato with sour cream and chives. I pulled up to the drive thru and placed my order. The voice from the speaker said they were out of potatoes today. Out of potatoes? Was there An Gorta Mó in Connecticut that I was unaware of? I said okay, goodbye and thank you to the speaker. What else can I get at Wendy's other than a salad where I have to pick off the chicken?
So it was off to Burger King next door. I knew I could get a kid's macaroni & cheese and the apple fries there. (I know they have a veggie burger but I'm not a big fan.) I drove up and ask for the kid's mac and cheese. It was deja vú...the voice behind the speaker said they were out of macaroni and cheese today. No macaroni and cheese? What was going on with the fast food restaurants in the area? Why do these things always happen when I'm either starving or really craving something. I was too fed up to make any more stops so I just went home and ate a lame Lean Cuisine which I keep on hand for times like these. And yes, these times seem to happen to me often.
This incident reminds me of a time when I went to visit my brother in Boston. I had planned to go to Peet's Coffee in Cambridge. I was excited to go because there are no Peet's in Connecticut or any other ones on the east coast that I'm aware of. And if you knew the coffee places I have to deal with around here you would understand why I was so excited to go somewhere that was actually good. As we arrived we saw a sign on the door that said they were not serving any espresso drinks. Apparently all the espresso machines were broken and we were not waiting in a long line for boring ol' coffee.
These little scenarios seems to follow me (alone or with someone) wherever I go. Like at my local Starbucks, recently they have been out of pumpkin syrup for the pumpkin lattes (hello, it is autumn!), hot chocolate, and bottled water. Just at lunch the other day I went to a little sandwich place for a wrap. They were out of wraps and only had one kind of bread left to choose from. Then my coworker ordered the chicken salad and they said they were out of anything chicken!
What's next, I'll go to Sephora and they'll be out of makeup, the Gap and they'll be out of jeans, the Apple store and they'll be out of i-Pods? Or how about the next time I go to the bank and they'll be out of money....oh wait...that is the usual case for me! :P

Dude, word on the bank being out of money... I'm so glad today is payday!
This is awesome. I totally know what you're saying. I remember this one time, when I was working in New Haven, when my co-worker and I had to go to Dunkin' Donuts to pick up some Munchkins for a morning meeting. Well, they were out. Of doughnuts. Completely out, like not even a gross, dried-out powdered sugar doughnut was left in the corner of a bin. The guy who worked there was like, "We have plenty of coffee!." I was like, whatever, and turned to go, but my co-worker pitched a fit. She slammed her fist down on the counter and screamed, "This is NOT Dunkin' Coffee!" Apparently, she really wanted some doughnuts.
